Separated Officers Recertification Course (HB218)

Duration: 2 Hours

Course Fee: $50.00 for the first weapon, $25.00 for additional weapon

Requirements: MUST BE A SEPARATED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. Class times are 10am to 12pm. Each student is required to provide weapon, holster, 60 rounds of ammunition for each weapon, eye / ear protection. Ammunition and eye / ear protection can be purchased at the facility. The following are necessary requirements for LEOSA:

1. The officer separated in good standing from service with a public agency as a law enforcement officer, other than for reasons of mental instability.

2. Prior to separation, the officer was authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation or prosecution of, or the incarceration of any person for, any violation of law and had statutory powers of arrest.

3. Prior to separation, the officer was regularly employed as a law enforcement officer for an aggregate of 10 years or more; or separated from service with such agency , after completing any applicable probationary period of such service, due to a service-connected disability, as determined by such agency.
4. The officer has a “nonforfeitable right to benefits” under the retirement plan of the agency.

5. During the most recent 12-month period, the officer has met (at their personal expense) the State’s standards for training and qualification for active law enforcement officers to carry firearms.

6. The separated officer is not under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating or hallucinatory drug or substance.

7. The officer is not prohibited by Federal law from receiving a firearm.

Course Description: Qualify separated law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons and to comply with the provisions of the State of Ohio and Public law 110-272. Each student will receive an International Security Associates, Inc. certification card upon successful completion of course.
