Private Security Officer Security Training Sessions

Duration: 8 Hours (per session)

Course Fee: $105.00 per session (10% discount will be applied when registering for 3 and/or four sessions)

Requirements: Early registration is recommended as class size is limited.
100% class attendance. No prerequisites for sessions one, two and three. Session four requires a prerequisite: you must currently be employed as a Private Security or Law Enforcement Officer. Class times are 9am to 5pm. Lunch is not included.

Course Description: ISA offers the following highly sought after specialized training sessions to individuals pursuing a career in the Private Security Industry, or to current security personnel who desire to enhance their skills and professionalism. Participants will receive an ISA certificate upon successful completion of each session(s).


REGISTER Session 1

This session will cover: critical elements that assist security officers in having positive interaction with the public. Effective listening, guidelines for conducting interviews, the importance of one’s physical appearance and various types of communication are some of the elements discussed. The information gathering process and its importance to security officers will be taught in detail covering observation and description, field note taking and report writing. Fundamental patrol functions of a security officer will be taught along with scenario training to work on the discussed techniques. Topics include:

  • Public Relations
  • Observation, Description, Field Note Taking, Interviews and Report Writing
  • Patrol Techniques


REGISTER Session 2

This session will cover: the role and expectations of a security officer in relation to securing and controlling a crime scene. Aspects of conflict resolution/crisis situations will be discussed to include ways for security officers to recognize pre-incident indicators and how to appropriately respond to various emergencies. Key aspects involved in an active shooter situation and common tendencies of an attacker are examined. Information for security officers on how to immediately respond to an active shooter incident are discussed. Elements of crowd control and objectives of private security personnel when dealing with crowds will be explained. Topics include:

  • Securing/Controlling a Crime Scene
  • Conflict Resolution/Crisis Situations
  • Active Shooter
  • Crowd Control


REGISTER Session 3

This session will cover: aspects surrounding the legal authority of private security officers to detain in contrast with arrest powers of law enforcement. Liability and how it relates to the duties and responsibilities of security officers is discussed. The class details specific areas where officer's actions will face the most liability as well as an overview of legal defenses that can be used when facing liability charges. Students will learn the core skills relating to basic first aid, CPR and AED usage. Successful completion of the session will result in nationally recognized certification through the American Heart Association. Topics include:

  • Laws of Arrest/Liability/Court Demeanor
  • CPR/AED/First Aid (will receive American Heart Certification)


REGISTER Session 4

Prerequisite: You must currently be employed as a Private Security or Law Enforcement Officer in order to register for this session. Verification must be provided upon registration.

This session will cover: basic defensive measures, control tactics and various unarmed self-defense techniques that will assist security officers in completion of their duties. Key aspects and techniques in the proper usage of Chemical Mace, baton and handcuffing will be taught. Each element will be thoroughly explained and demonstrated by the instructors prior to student participation and demonstration of learned techniques. Scenario training will be utilized to combine all elements of the session and to create a realistic training environment. Topics include:

  • Defensive Measures, Unarmed Self-Defense
  • Chemical Mace, Baton, Handcuffing and Scenario Training


Course Dates: Sessions are conducted Tuesday through Friday with Session 1 being conducted on Tuesdays, Session 2 conducted on Wednesdays, Session 3 conducted on Thursdays and Session 4 is conducted on Fridays. Each session is a one day (8 hour) session. Should you elect to register for multiple sessions, please check appropriate boxes on registration form and select the dates where indicated.
